Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur District Launches Campaign to Make 35,000 People Literate
Balrampur (Chhattisgarh), December 14: Emphasizing education as a transformative tool, the Balrampur district administration in Chhattisgarh has launched an extensive campaign to make 35,000 people literate. This initiative, led by the Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai-led government, aims to empower individuals from various age groups through education.
To achieve this goal, the administration has established 3,500 ‘Ullas Saksharta Kendras’ across the district. These centres are dedicated to teaching people from different demographics, including men, women, and the elderly, who had previously dropped out of formal education for various reasons. The district administration is actively monitoring these centres to ensure effective learning.
Officials have shared that the campaign targets individuals from diverse age groups. Volunteers, selected by the administration, conduct classes at these Ullas Kendras during evening hours. Many of the villagers involved are excited to learn the alphabet, with some already able to write their names and practice signatures instead of relying on thumb impressions.
Zila Panchayat CEO Rena Jamil explained, “We have launched this campaign to make approximately 35,000 illiterate people literate, many of whom had quit their studies due to various reasons.” The project’s progress is actively supported by local volunteers, including school students.
To encourage participation, the government has introduced a provision where class 10 students who teach at these centres will receive an additional 10 marks in their board examinations. District and block-level officers are also contributing to the initiative by teaching older adults and school dropouts.
This literacy campaign in Balrampur is a significant step in fostering inclusive education and empowering communities, helping individuals gain literacy skills that will transform their lives.
