New Delhi, February 6, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s annual interaction program Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC) is returning with a fresh format in 2025. This year, the event will feature a star-studded lineup of personalities, including Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, Olympic boxer Mary Kom, and Paralympic shooter Avani Lekhara, alongside other experts like nutritionist Rujuta Divekar, motivational speaker Sonali Sabharwal, and YouTuber Technical Guruji. The initiative aims to empower students, particularly those gearing up for their board examinations, with guidance on managing stress and preparing holistically.

The PPC, organized by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, will take place at the Bharat Mandapam in the national capital in a town hall format. The event has gained immense popularity since its inception in 2018, evolving into a nationwide movement. In its eighth edition in 2025, PPC saw a record-breaking 3.56 crore registrations, reflecting the program’s vast reach and growing significance among students, teachers, and parents across the country.

The core focus of Pariksha Pe Charcha is to transform exam-related anxiety into a festival of learning, dubbed “Utsav,” where students are encouraged to view exams as an opportunity for growth rather than a source of stress. This year’s edition will also include special activities conducted at the school level, from January 12 to January 25, to keep students engaged and help them manage exam-related pressures effectively.

A total of 1.42 crore students, 12.81 lakh teachers, and 2.94 lakh schools took part in these activities, which included indigenous games, creative competitions, and wellness activities like yoga and meditation. These initiatives are designed to improve focus, reduce stress, and promote well-being, ensuring students approach their exams with a calm and clear mindset.

Since its inception, Pariksha Pe Charcha has not only become a popular program but a movement that resonates deeply with the nation’s educational community. From its early days in New Delhi to its online adaptations during the COVID-19 pandemic, and back to a live format, PPC has continually adapted to serve the needs of students nationwide.

PM Modi’s direct dialogue with students, teachers, and parents is central to the program’s success, helping to demystify the exam process and provide practical strategies for stress management. Through this engaging format, PPC encourages the spirit of positivity and well-being during one of the most challenging times in a student’s life — the board exams.

Canada’s Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced plans to cut 3,300 jobs, which constitutes a quarter of its workforce, by 2028. This is the latest in a series of job cuts by the federal government, following the 600 layoffs at the Canada Revenue Agency last year. The IRCC is responsible for processing citizenship, permanent residency, and passport applications, and these reductions are expected to slow down immigration procedures, particularly impacting Indian nationals planning to work or settle in Canada.

Labour unions, including the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Canada Employment and Immigration Union (CEIU), have criticized these cuts. Employees will learn their fate by mid-February, with the IRCC stating that the reductions will impact various sectors across both domestic and international branches of the agency.

The IRCC cited its previous pandemic-driven expansion and the need to align staffing with reduced immigration levels and permanent funding as the reasons behind the cuts. These job losses are part of a broader strategy to reduce government spending to pre-pandemic levels, with the federal budget proposing a $15 billion USD reduction over four years.

The job cuts come amid rising concerns about Canada’s immigration system, particularly in relation to the growing number of Indian immigrants. India has become the largest source country for immigrants to Canada, with Indian immigration to Canada rising by 326% from 2013 to 2023. The increased job cuts are expected to exacerbate delays in immigration processing, adding further strain to an already overburdened system.

Unions have expressed that these cuts will significantly impact vulnerable populations, leaving thousands of workers uncertain about their job security. As discussions intensify online, there is growing concern about the implications of these cuts on both the immigration system and Canada’s economy.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important notice to all affiliated schools, stressing the importance of maintaining examination ethics and ensuring fair conduct during the upcoming Class 10th and Class 12th board exams in 2025. With approximately 44 lakh students set to appear for the exams beginning on February 15, 2025, the board aims to provide clear guidelines regarding prohibited items, dress code, and consequences for indulging in unfair practices.

Emphasis on Unfair Means Rules (UFM)

The CBSE has reiterated the need for schools to brief students about the “Unfair Means Rules” (UFM), outlining prohibited actions that can compromise the integrity of the examination process. Key among these is the possession and use of electronic devices such as mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, smartwatches, and other communication tools within the examination centre. Violating these rules can lead to severe penalties, including the cancellation of both the current year’s and next year’s exams.

Schools have been instructed to ensure that both students and their parents are fully aware of the UFM guidelines, including the heavy consequences of engaging in such unethical practices. On the exam day, school officials will remind students to leave any barred items at home or outside the exam centre.

What Students Are Allowed to Bring

For a smooth examination experience, students are allowed to carry the following items to the exam centre:

Admit Card and School Identity Card (for regular students)

Admit Card and Any Government Issued Photo Identity Proof (for private students)

Stationery items in a Transparent Pouch, such as a geometry/pencil box, blue or royal blue ink/ballpoint/gel pen, scale, writing pad, and eraser

An Analogue Watch

A Transparent Water Bottle

Metro Card, Bus Pass, and Money

What Students Must NOT Bring

The CBSE has also outlined a list of items strictly prohibited during the exams. Any student found carrying the following items will be treated under the “Unfair Means” category, facing possible disciplinary action:

Stationery items containing textual material (written or printed), calculators, or any electronic devices like mobile phones, Bluetooth earphones, smartwatches, or cameras

Personal items like wallets, goggles, handbags, or pouches

Eatable items (except for diabetic students who may carry prescribed food)

Items that could potentially be used for cheating

Dress Code for CBSE Board Exams

To maintain uniformity and discipline, CBSE has specified a dress code for students appearing for the 2025 board exams. Regular students are required to wear their school uniform, while private students are expected to wear light, simple clothes. This is to ensure that there are no distractions or issues that could compromise the exam environment.

With the CBSE Board Exams approaching, it is crucial for all students to familiarize themselves with these guidelines to avoid any inconvenience or penalties. Schools are urged to share these important instructions with their students and parents to promote a smooth and fair examination process for all.
