India Set to Reach Take-Off Stage in Export Sector: A Focus on E-Mobility and Battery Technology
New Delhi, January 8 – India is on the brink of reaching a pivotal stage in its export sector, particularly in the domain of electric vehicles (EVs) and clean mobility, according to Vimal Anand, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Speaking at the curtain-raiser event for the upcoming Bharat Battery Show, which forms part of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Anand expressed optimism about the nation’s growing influence in the global mobility market.
Anand noted that while electric vehicles for domestic consumption have already begun to take off, India is poised to make similar strides in the global export sector. “I hope that with strategic acquisitions and the emergence of new players, along with established companies ramping up their capabilities, India will soon be at the take-off stage in the EV and clean mobility export sector,” he said.
One of the key drivers behind this growth is the government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which incentivizes local manufacturing and innovation. This initiative not only strengthens India’s capacity to produce high-quality batteries and electric vehicles but also bolsters confidence in India’s ability to lead the global e-mobility revolution. The program is designed to reduce dependency on imports and stimulate economic growth.
Furthermore, the government has committed to accelerating the adoption of EVs with initiatives such as the PM E-drive scheme. Under this, the government has allocated a substantial 2000 crore rupees to develop fast charging infrastructure, an essential step in boosting EV adoption across the country.
“Batteries are the cornerstone of the e-mobility transition,” Anand emphasized, underscoring their critical role in enabling efficient, sustainable, and reliable transportation. By 2030, India is expected to need 300 GWh of advanced batteries for the e-mobility sector, a need that underscores the urgency to innovate and deploy cutting-edge energy storage technologies as the country moves toward a greener future.
The Bharat Mobility Global Expo and Bharat Battery Show, expected to feature over 20 new product launches, will showcase India’s capabilities in these areas. Debi Prasad Dash, President of the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), added that IESA will also host two pre-event knowledge conferences: the 4th India Battery Manufacturing and Supply Chain Summit on January 15-16 and the India Battery Recycling and Reuse Summit on January 18.
In addition, the Bharat Battery Show will feature key knowledge sessions, including a startup connect program and the India Charging Infrastructure Forum on January 21. The event’s Battery Tech, Recycling, and Charging Infra Pavilions will demonstrate India’s progress in these crucial sectors, highlighting the nation’s readiness to lead the global mobility transformation.
As India gears up for this crucial phase, its growing leadership in the EV and battery technology sectors signals a promising future for both the domestic and global e-mobility markets.
