Washington [US], January 3: Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s eagerly awaited animated film, The Wild Robot, is set to stream on Peacock beginning Friday, January 24. This feature has already made waves at the global box office, grossing over USD 324 million since its theatrical debut in September 2023, according to Deadline.
The movie is also available for rent or purchase on various digital platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, and other VOD services.
Based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Peter Brown, The Wild Robot follows the journey of Roz, a robot who washes ashore on a deserted island. She must adapt to the harsh environment around her. Voiced by Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o, Roz gradually builds deep bonds with the island’s animal residents, including a clever fox, voiced by Pedro Pascal.
A central theme of the film is Roz’s evolving relationship with Brightbill, an orphaned gosling, voiced by Kit Connor, as she becomes his adoptive mother. The emotional depth of their bond lies at the heart of the story.
Directed by Chris Sanders, a veteran filmmaker known for How to Train Your Dragon and Lilo & Stitch, the movie features an impressive voice cast. In addition to Nyong’o, Pascal, and Connor, the film includes Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Catherine O’Hara, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames.
The Wild Robot is based on the first book of a trilogy by Peter Brown, with the second book titled The Wild Robot Escapes. Jeff Hermann, known for his work on The Boss Baby 2: Family Business, produces the film, while Dean DeBlois, the director behind the How to Train Your Dragon films, serves as an executive producer. Heather Lanza is credited as co-producer.
This animated feature promises to captivate audiences with its heartfelt storytelling, impressive animation, and an all-star voice cast. Don’t miss the chance to experience The Wild Robot when it debuts on Peacock later this month.
