Jamnagar (Gujarat), January 2: Akash Ambani, Director of Reliance Industries Limited, announced an ambitious plan to develop cutting-edge AI infrastructure in Jamnagar within a record time of 24 months. Speaking at an event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the iconic Jamnagar refinery, Akash highlighted the city’s integral role in Reliance’s journey and its future as a global leader in technology.
“Jamnagar is the jewel of the Reliance family, and we are committed to building AI infrastructure here that will place the city among the top-ranking hubs globally,” Akash Ambani said. “We have already begun the work and, staying true to Jamnagar’s spirit, aim to complete this project in record time.”
He emphasized that this initiative reflects Reliance’s broader vision of growth and innovation, with Isha Ambani and Anant Ambani joining him in spearheading the company’s efforts. “Together, we promise to strengthen Reliance and ensure Jamnagar continues to shine as the crown jewel of our enterprise,” Akash affirmed, adding that their commitment extends to honoring the vision of their parents and the legacy of Reliance.
The announcement comes as Jamnagar celebrates the 25-year milestone of its refinery, which has grown into the world’s largest refining hub and a source of national pride for India.
Jamnagar: A Story of Vision and Determination
The Jamnagar refinery, launched on December 28, 1999, symbolizes Reliance’s indomitable spirit. Built in just 33 months, the refinery overcame monumental challenges, including the absence of basic infrastructure and the devastation of a severe cyclone. At the time, many experts doubted that an Indian company could establish the world’s largest refinery in such a remote, desert-like region.
However, Dhirubhai Ambani, the visionary founder of Reliance, defied the skeptics and embarked on creating not just an industrial complex but a “Nandanwan” – a paradise in the wilderness. With relentless determination, Dhirubhai and his team transformed Jamnagar into a global refining hub between 1996 and 1999.
Today, the Jamnagar refinery complex houses some of the most advanced units in the world, including the Fluidized Catalytic Cracker (FCC), Coker, Alkylation, Paraxylene, Polypropylene, Refinery Off-Gas Cracker (ROGC), and Petcoke gasification plants.
