Apple has launched Safari Technology Preview 212, marking the latest update for its experimental browser designed to give developers and advanced users a sneak peek into upcoming features. First introduced in March 2016, the Safari Technology Preview provides an opportunity to explore cutting-edge tools and optimizations that will soon find their way into the regular Safari browser.

The new update introduces a variety of enhancements aimed at refining the user experience, featuring improvements and bug fixes across multiple web technologies. These include updates to Authentication, Canvas, CSS, Forms, JavaScript, Loading, Networking, PDF, Rendering, SVG, Text, Web API, and Web Inspector. By addressing existing issues and refining performance, Apple continues its push to make Safari a faster, more efficient browser for users who rely on advanced web functionalities.

Safari Technology Preview 212 is compatible with the latest macOS versions—macOS Sonoma and macOS Sequoia. Users can easily install the update through the Software Update section found in System Preferences or System Settings, provided they already have the Safari Technology Preview app installed from Apple’s official website.

One of the standout features of Safari Technology Preview is its accessibility. Unlike the full Safari browser, this experimental version does not require a developer account, opening up the program to a broader audience. This approach allows both developers and everyday users who are passionate about web technologies to explore and provide feedback on new features, without interrupting their daily browsing habits.

While designed with developers in mind, Safari Technology Preview lets users run the experimental version alongside their regular Safari browser, ensuring that testing and feedback do not disrupt their standard web usage. Apple’s goal is to fine-tune features before they are incorporated into official Safari releases, and the insights gathered from real-world usage play a crucial role in this process.

For those looking for a deeper dive into the changes introduced in Safari Technology Preview 212, Apple has made the full release notes available on the Safari Technology Preview website. These detailed notes offer a breakdown of the updates and fixes included, providing users with full transparency and an opportunity to track progress.

Safari Technology Preview continues to be an important tool for improving Safari’s web browsing experience, offering a valuable glimpse into the browser’s future while allowing users to contribute to the ongoing refinement of web technologies.

Washington [US], December 31: A new report suggests that Apple may introduce a significant change to its iPhone 17 lineup, bringing high-refresh-rate OLED displays to all models, a feature that has previously been exclusive to the Pro variants. According to MacRumors, sources close to Apple’s supply chain claim that the base iPhone 17 model could feature a high-refresh-rate display, marking a major shift in Apple’s approach to its iPhone display technology.

This rumor is consistent with earlier leaks and reports about Apple’s future plans, with the source being known for accurately predicting past hardware upgrades, including details about the iPhone 15 series’ camera sensors and the display panel in the iPhone 12.

Currently, the iPhone 16 Pro models are equipped with OLED displays capable of high refresh rates, thanks to the implementation of LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) technology. This technology enables variable refresh rates, adapting the display based on what’s shown on the screen, resulting in smoother scrolling and better power efficiency—a feature exclusive to the Pro models so far.

MacRumors also mentioned that Apple might bring LTPO technology to all models in the iPhone 17 series, aligning with a report from February. In September, additional leaks suggested that the iPhone 17 range could feature ProMotion displays, allowing for smooth refresh rates of 120Hz or higher. This would bring a feature currently reserved for the Pro variants to all models, including the potential new “Slim” version, which could replace the “Plus” model in 2025.

The iPhone 17 Slim is also expected to feature ProMotion, making high-refresh-rate displays standard across all models in the series. Other enhancements are expected for the Pro variants, including a smaller Face ID sensor and Dynamic Island cutout in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Both the Pro and Pro Max models may also come equipped with 12GB of RAM, a notable upgrade compared to the base models, which may include 8GB of RAM, still a substantial improvement over current devices.

Another key upgrade for the iPhone 17 series could be in the camera system. Apple is reportedly planning to equip all models with a 24MP front-facing camera, a significant upgrade from the 12MP front-facing camera found in most iPhones today. Additionally, all iPhone 17 models are said to feature a new Apple-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip, improving performance and wireless connectivity.

These potential upgrades suggest that the iPhone 17 series could mark a notable shift in Apple’s strategy, making premium features like ProMotion and high-refresh-rate OLED displays available across all models. If true, this would ensure a more consistent user experience across the lineup, providing all iPhone users with top-tier performance and display quality, not just those who choose the Pro models.
