Melbourne, Australia – December 27: The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) has announced that it will bestow Honorary Cricket Membership upon cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the sport.

In a post on X, the MCC expressed its pleasure in acknowledging the former Indian captain as a true icon of the game, stating, “An icon honoured. The MCC is pleased to announce that former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar has accepted an Honorary Cricket Membership, acknowledging his outstanding contribution to the game.”

Founded on November 15, 1983, by pioneers including Frederick Powlett, Robert Russell, George B. Smyth, and brothers Alfred and Charles Mundy, the Melbourne Cricket Club has long been at the heart of Australian cricket, and Tendulkar’s recognition by the club is a testament to his unparalleled impact on the game.

Tendulkar, who is widely celebrated for his cricketing genius, has etched his name in history through a career spanning over two decades. The “Master Blaster,” as he is fondly known, entertained fans across the globe from 1989 until his retirement in 2013. The Maharashtra-born cricketer made his Test debut on November 15, 1989, at just 16 years old, and played his first One Day International (ODI) on December 18 of the same year.

With a staggering total of 34,357 runs from 664 international appearances, Tendulkar holds the record for being the highest run-scorer in international cricket, with an impressive average of 48.52. His achievements include 100 centuries and 164 half-centuries, setting milestones that remain unmatched in the sport’s rich history.

Among his many records, Tendulkar became the first cricketer to score a double century in ODIs and also played an unparalleled 200 Test matches. In ODIs, he accumulated 18,426 runs at an average of 44.83, including 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries. In Test cricket, he scored 15,921 runs at an average of 53.78, with 51 centuries and 68 fifties.

In 2011, Tendulkar’s dream of winning the ICC Cricket World Cup was finally realized when he was part of the victorious Indian team. He had previously made his World Cup debut in 1992, and his role in the 2011 victory was a crowning moment of his illustrious career.

Tendulkar also made significant contributions to the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2008 to 2013, representing the Mumbai Indians and helping them secure the championship in 2013.

The Honorary Cricket Membership by the Melbourne Cricket Club is another prestigious recognition for Tendulkar, reflecting his monumental impact on the world of cricket.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh), December 3: Gujarat’s Urvil Patel continued his remarkable form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, smashing an unbeaten 115 off just 41 balls against Uttarakhand on Tuesday. This incredible performance came on the heels of his record-breaking 28-ball century against Tripura last week, making him India’s fastest and the world’s second-quickest T20 centurion.

Patel, a 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, fell just one delivery short of matching Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan’s world record for the fastest T20 century. His innings against Uttarakhand was a display of relentless aggression, featuring eight boundaries and 11 towering sixes.

Gujarat, chasing a target of 183 set by Uttarakhand, rode on Patel’s heroics to secure a dominant 8-wicket victory. This win propelled Gujarat to the joint-top position in Group C, with five wins from six matches.

Saurashtra and Mumbai Shine in Group C

Saurashtra joined Gujarat at the top of Group C with 20 points after a commanding 58-run victory over Tamil Nadu. After posting a mammoth 235/5, powered by half-centuries from Harvik Desai (55), Ruchit Ahir (56), and Sammar Gajjar (55*), Saurashtra’s bowlers restricted Tamil Nadu to 177/9.

Tamil Nadu, struggling in the tournament, suffered their fourth defeat in six games, while Saurashtra maintained their impressive run with consistent performances.

Mumbai also continued their resurgence in Group C, defeating Services by 39 runs to secure their second consecutive win. Shivam Dube (71*), making a successful comeback after a three-month injury layoff, and Suryakumar Yadav (70) formed a crucial third-wicket partnership, propelling Mumbai to 192/4.

Shardul Thakur starred with the ball, taking 4/25, ensuring a comfortable victory for Mumbai and boosting their chances in the tournament.

Group C Tightens as Teams Eye Knockouts

With Gujarat and Saurashtra tied at the top, and Mumbai gaining momentum, Group C is heating up as teams compete for a place in the knockouts. Urvil Patel’s scintillating form continues to be the highlight of the tournament, making Gujarat a strong contender for the title.
