The Indian Navy recently participated in the sea phase of the multinational maritime exercise La Perouse 25, held from January 17 to 20, alongside the French Carrier Strike Group (CSG), the Royal Navy, and the Royal Canadian Navy. The exercise aimed to strengthen maritime security across the Indo-Pacific region, promoting cooperation and interoperability among participating nations.

The Indian Navy’s participation was marked by the involvement of its indigenous destroyer, INS Mumbai, and the long-range maritime surveillance aircraft P8I. These assets worked in tandem with those from the French, British, Canadian, and other allied forces, participating in a variety of complex operations that enhanced coordination between the navies.

The exercise included a comprehensive set of drills, including air defense exercises, surface shoots, boarding operations, cross-deck landings, and tactical maneuvers. These activities were designed to test and improve the ability of the naval forces to collaborate effectively, ensuring enhanced maritime security in the region.

A key objective of La Perouse 25 was to bolster trust and interoperability among the naval forces of the participating countries, with a particular focus on maritime security. The exercise involved a wide range of nations, including India, France, Indonesia, Australia, the US, the UK, Malaysia, Singapore, and Canada, and took place in critical waters such as the Malacca, Sunda, and Lombok straits, which connect the Indian Ocean with the Pacific Ocean.

The exercise was conducted as part of the French Carrier Strike Group’s Mission Clemenceau 25, led by the Charles De Gaulle aircraft carrier. This joint initiative underscores the growing synergy between the navies of like-minded nations in promoting a secure, rules-based maritime order in the Indo-Pacific.

The participation of the Indian Navy in La Perouse 25 highlights the country’s strategic vision of enhancing maritime security through cooperation, in line with India’s broader SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative. This exercise reaffirms India’s commitment to fostering a safer and more secure maritime environment in the Indo-Pacific region, ensuring stability and growth for all nations within the area.

In summary, the La Perouse 25 exercise served as a platform for participating countries to strengthen their maritime partnerships, improve operational interoperability, and demonstrate their collective dedication to safeguarding the vital sea lanes of the Indo-Pacific.

New Delhi, December 2 – Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi emphasized the maritime force’s vigilance over the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy’s activities in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), citing concerns about its behavior in the South China Sea.

“We are keeping a close watch on extra-regional forces operating in the Indian seas, including the PLA Navy, their warships, and research vessels. We monitor their actions and positions,” Admiral Tripathi said during a press conference on Monday.

Highlighting China’s ambitions, Admiral Tripathi referred to its self-perception as the “Middle Kingdom” and its long-term vision to become a global power. “Our assessment is that their activities will manifest more in the Pacific Ocean, but we are ensuring that our interests in the Indian Ocean remain unaffected,” he stated.

The Navy Chief also confirmed the successful launch of a nuclear-capable missile from INS Arighaat. “The test was successful, and the trajectory is under examination by the concerned agencies. The nuclear submarines, including INS Arihant, have conducted multiple deterrence patrols and will continue to perform their intended roles,” he said.

Admiral Tripathi noted significant progress in India’s naval capabilities, with 62 warships and one submarine under construction. Plans for 31 additional warships and submarines, including six under Project 75 India, have been approved. He also highlighted advancements in naval aviation with 60 utility helicopters being developed for the fleet.

Speaking on the commissioning of the second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, INS Arighaat, Admiral Tripathi said, “In August, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commissioned the SSBN INS Arighaat, enhancing our country’s third leg of the nuclear triad. This development aligns with our focus on adopting advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics.”

Addressing the Pakistan Navy’s expansion, Admiral Tripathi remarked, “We are aware of their aim to become a 50-ship navy. However, they have chosen to prioritize weapons over the welfare of their people.”

The Indian Navy’s technological and strategic advancements reflect the evolving character of warfare, ensuring India’s maritime interests are safeguarded amid regional and global challenges.

New Delhi [India], November 28 : The Indian Navy successfully test-fired the K-4 nuclear-capable ballistic missile from the newly-inducted nuclear submarine, INS Arighaat, on Wednesday.

According to defence sources, the test results are currently under analysis, and officials will soon brief top military and political leaders. This milestone is considered vital for validating India’s second-strike capability, a critical component of its nuclear deterrence strategy.

INS Arighaat, inducted into the Navy in August this year at the Vishakhapatnam-based Ship Building Centre, is the second nuclear submarine in India’s arsenal capable of firing ballistic missiles. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted extensive trials of the missile system on underwater platforms before this full-range test.

Sources revealed that the Navy is planning further tests of the K-4 missile system. The Indian Navy’s fleet of nuclear submarines includes INS Arihant and INS Arighaat, with a third submarine already launched and expected to be inducted next year.

This test underscores India’s commitment to enhancing its strategic defence capabilities and reinforces its position as a key player in global nuclear deterrence.
