In a significant cabinet meeting held at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on January 22, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a series of major development projects aimed at boosting infrastructure, healthcare, and economic growth across the state. The decisions made during the meeting have far-reaching implications for Uttar Pradesh’s future, with a focus on creating new medical institutions, bolstering the industrial training sector, and enhancing investment opportunities.

Establishing New Medical Colleges and ITIs

Among the key announcements, CM Yogi revealed plans to establish three new medical colleges in Hathras, Kasganj, and Baghpat, improving access to quality healthcare education in these regions. Furthermore, he emphasized the expansion of the state’s vocational training infrastructure, with the approval for the establishment of 62 new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). These institutes will play a crucial role in equipping the youth with the skills necessary for employment in various industries.

In addition, five new centres for innovation, invention, and training will be set up across Uttar Pradesh, fostering creativity and technological advancements in the state.

Policy Renewals and Investment Initiatives

The state cabinet also approved the renewal of Uttar Pradesh’s Aerospace and Defence and Employment policies, which have been in place for five years. CM Yogi announced that the state would offer new incentives to attract further investment in these sectors, thereby strengthening the state’s position as an economic hub in India.

Municipal Bonds for Key Cities

In a bid to enhance the development of important urban areas, the UP government will issue municipal corporation bonds for Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Agra. This move follows the successful issuance of bonds for Lucknow and Ghaziabad, which yielded positive results. CM Yogi expressed that these bonds would serve as a vital tool for branding and boosting the development of these cities, in line with the government’s new vision for urban growth.

Prayagraj-Chitrakoot Development Region

A major highlight of the meeting was the announcement of the creation of the Prayagraj-Chitrakoot Development Region. Inspired by the success of the Lucknow State Capital Region, the new region will aim to foster integrated growth and sustainable development for the areas surrounding Prayagraj and Chitrakoot. CM Yogi stated that this initiative aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will help improve the region’s infrastructure, economy, and overall living standards.

Additionally, plans are underway to develop a similar region in Varanasi in collaboration with the Niti Aayog, further enhancing the state’s development agenda.

Ganga Expressway Expansion

In another key infrastructure development, CM Yogi highlighted the expansion of the Ganga Expressway, which will connect Prayagraj to key locations such as Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Kashi, and Chandauli. The expressway will also link to the Purvanchal Expressway in Ghazipur, ensuring seamless connectivity across several important districts. This initiative is expected to boost trade, tourism, and economic growth in the region.

Opposition’s Criticism

While the cabinet meeting was hailed by many, it faced criticism from the opposition, particularly Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav. Yadav condemned the decision to hold the meeting at the Maha Kumbh, calling it politically motivated. He argued that Kumbh and Prayagraj should remain free from political agendas, and that the cabinet meeting was an attempt to gain political mileage.

In response, CM Yogi defended the decision, stating that the meeting was an opportunity to carry out crucial state business in line with the spirit of development and progress, while also acknowledging the cultural and spiritual significance of the location.

As Uttar Pradesh moves forward with these ambitious development projects, the state is poised to see transformative changes in infrastructure, healthcare, and employment opportunities, further solidifying its place as a key player in India’s economic future.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project continues to make significant strides as a crucial milestone was reached with the completion of a 210-meter-long pre-stressed concrete (PSC) bridge over National Highway-48. Located at Dabhan village near Nadiad in Kheda district, Gujarat, this new infrastructure piece is part of the high-speed rail corridor linking Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Completed on January 9, 2025, the bridge sits between the Anand and Ahmedabad bullet train stations. The construction of the bridge employed the Balanced Cantilever Method, a technique typically used for spans of this size. According to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd., the bridge is composed of 72 precast segments and has four spans with the following configuration: 40 meters + 65 meters + 65 meters + 40 meters.

This achievement is a part of the ongoing development of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project. Significant progress has been made across various components, including the completion of 253 kilometers of viaduct work, 290 kilometers of girder casting, and 358 kilometers of pier construction. Additionally, several bridges have been built, including 13 over rivers and five steel bridges.

The project also includes extensive noise barrier installation, covering approximately 112 kilometers, and track construction has already begun in multiple locations across Gujarat. In Maharashtra, the construction of a 21-kilometer tunnel between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Thane is underway. Additionally, the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) is being used to develop seven mountain tunnels in Palghar district. One tunnel has already been completed in Valsad district, Gujarat.

The MAHSR project, which passes through the rapidly growing states of Gujarat and Maharashtra, will connect major business hubs such as Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad. According to a feasibility study conducted by JICA, the project’s Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) is estimated at 11.8%, underscoring its significant potential for economic impact.

With each passing day, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project inches closer to transforming the transportation landscape between two of India’s most important economic centers.

Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh (India), January 9: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna company, has contributed a substantial 45,000 tonnes of steel for the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The Ministry of Steel confirmed the supply, which includes a range of products such as chequered plates, hot strip mill plates, mild steel plates, angles, and joists.

SAIL’s involvement with the Maha Kumbh Mela is not a new one. The company had also provided steel during the 2013 event, demonstrating its continued support for this significant public gathering. The steel supplied by SAIL will be crucial in the construction of various temporary structures, essential for the smooth and successful organization of the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela.

The steel will be used in the construction of pontoon bridges, passages, temporary steel bridges, substations, and flyovers. Key recipients of the steel supply include the Public Works Department (PWD), Uttar Pradesh State Bridges Corporation, the Electricity Board, and their associated suppliers.

SAIL expressed its pride in contributing steel to such a large-scale event, which is a reflection of India’s rich cultural heritage. The company remains committed to supporting national projects that bolster the country’s infrastructure while promoting its cultural and social progress.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings, is not only a meeting point for rivers but also a celebration of diverse cultures, traditions, and artistic expressions. Held every twelve years, the event transcends religious and spiritual boundaries, offering a platform to highlight India’s vibrant cultural heritage.

Millions of devotees are expected to attend the Maha Kumbh, with key dates for the “Shahi Snan” (royal bath) set for January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has reviewed the preparations for the grand event as of Thursday.

New Delhi, December 15: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal, on Sunday introduced the Jalvahak policy, designed to promote the transportation of long-haul cargo through India’s national waterways. This initiative aims to encourage cargo movement via National Waterways 1 (river Ganga), National Waterways 2 (river Brahmaputra), and National Waterways 16 (river Barak).

Sonowal also flagged off three cargo ships — MV AAI, MV Homi Bhaba, and MV Trishul, along with two dumb barges, Ajay and Dikhu, from the GR Jetty, marking the launch of the Fixed Scheduled Service of Cargo Vessels. These vessels will operate on a fixed schedule between Kolkata, Patna, Varanasi, and Pandu in Guwahati, traveling along National Waterways 1 and 2, including the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol Route (IBPR).

Joining Sonowal on this momentous occasion were Union Minister of State for MoPSW, Shantanu Thakur, and Minister of State for Transportation (Independent Charge), Government of Uttar Pradesh, Daya Shankar Singh.

Speaking at the event, Sonowal highlighted the government’s efforts under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to unlock the potential of India’s extensive inland waterways network. He emphasized the benefits of using waterways for cargo transport, citing its cost-effectiveness, eco-friendly nature, and efficiency compared to rail and road transport.

“The Jalvahak scheme incentivizes long-haul cargo movement on National Waterways 1, 2, and 16, creating a valuable opportunity for trade to shift towards waterways,” said Sonowal. “The regular scheduled service will ensure timely delivery and build trust among businesses, reinforcing the readiness of national waterways for efficient, economical, and environmentally responsible transportation.”ss

Sonowal also noted that the new service would contribute to the Prime Minister’s vision of transforming India’s transportation sector, enhancing its economic growth, and making it a more developed nation.

In an exclusive interaction with ANI, Sonowal further explained that cargo transportation by waterways would be faster, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly than road transport. He also mentioned that the Jalvahak scheme would offer a 35% transportation incentive for the next three years, urging stakeholders to take advantage of the program to improve India’s logistics sector.

New Delhi [India], November 28 : Union Minister Piyush Goyal has underscored India’s growing position as a global leader in emerging technologies, attributing this success to several key initiatives that have transformed the nation’s infrastructure and connectivity landscape. Speaking at a press conference in Delhi on Thursday, Goyal outlined how the launch of the Interconnected Grid, the Digital India campaign, and the availability of affordable data have played pivotal roles in positioning India as a top destination for global investment.

Goyal emphasized that these transformative measures have revolutionized connectivity across the country. “The launch of the Interconnected Grid and Digital India, along with affordable data reaching every corner of the country, and interactive connectivity reaching every household, have collectively made India the most attractive destination in the world for artificial intelligence, data centers, and Global Capability Centers (GCCs),” the minister stated.

The Union Minister highlighted India’s progress across various sectors, particularly in manufacturing and exports. According to Goyal, these sectors have gained significant momentum in recent years, aided by the establishment of an interconnected ecosystem that is enabling further growth. “India is emerging as a quality-conscious nation, and the establishment of a robust infrastructure is driving our prominence in these emerging sectors,” Goyal added.

Goyal also noted that India’s 5G network expansion is progressing at an impressive pace, ensuring nationwide coverage in the near future. This expansion will further enhance the nation’s connectivity and strengthen its digital ecosystem.

Another key area discussed by Goyal was India’s Interconnected Grid, which boasts a capacity of 450-500 gigawatts, making it one of the most powerful in the world. This, he explained, is a crucial component in enhancing the country’s energy infrastructure and supporting its growth as a technology hub.

In addition to domestic advancements, Goyal also addressed the increasing interest from international companies in India’s market. He revealed that several NASDAQ-listed companies are considering delisting from U.S. stock exchanges to list on Indian bourses. This shift reflects growing global confidence in India’s economic potential.

Regarding Tesla and Starlink’s plans in India, Goyal clarified that he is not directly involved in discussions with these companies. “To the best of my knowledge, there have been no discussions yet. The Ministry of Heavy Industries handles matters related to automobiles, while Starlink comes under the jurisdiction of the space department,” he said.

On the topic of India’s relationship with the United States, Goyal expressed optimism about the future of trade between the two countries, especially under the leadership of President Donald Trump. He highlighted the positive personal and professional rapport between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump, saying, “Our relationship with the United States has gotten better every single year, and Mr. Trump himself has often expressed his confidence in the India-U.S. partnership.”

Concluding his remarks, Goyal reaffirmed India’s continued commitment to establishing itself as a global leader in technology, innovation, and infrastructure. He emphasized that the country’s evolving capabilities make it an attractive destination for global business, paving the way for deeper international collaboration and economic growth.
