New Delhi, January 19, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address during the 118th episode of his radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, celebrated the ongoing Maha Kumbh 2025, describing it as an extraordinary confluence of unity, equality, and harmony. PM Modi’s reflections on the grand event focused on its significance in bringing people together from all over India and the world, promoting values of equality and social harmony that transcend caste, creed, and geographic boundaries.

The Prime Minister noted the overwhelming scenes at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, emphasizing its role in showcasing “unforgettable crowds” and “unimaginable scenes” that highlight the spiritual confluence at the Sangam. “This time many divine yogas are also being formed in Kumbh. This festival of Kumbh celebrates unity in diversity. People from all over India and the world gather on the sands of Sangam. There is no discrimination or casteism anywhere in this tradition that has been going on for thousands of years,” said PM Modi. He went on to highlight how participants, regardless of their background, partake in the sacred rituals such as the holy dip in the Sangam, community feasts, and sharing of Prasad—emphasizing the festival’s embodiment of unity.

PM Modi also pointed out that such traditions extend beyond the northern part of India, referencing the Pushkaram festival in the south. Just as Kumbh is organized in places like Prayagraj, Ujjain, Nashik, and Haridwar, similar events take place in the southern states along rivers like Narmada, Godavari, Krishna, and Kaveri. The common thread between these celebrations, PM Modi said, is the connection to India’s sacred rivers and shared spiritual heritage. “The organisation of Kumbh also tells us that our tradition binds the whole of India together. The ways to follow beliefs are similar in the northern and southern parts of India,” he added.

The Prime Minister expressed pride in the fact that the Maha Kumbh has gained global recognition and continues to draw large crowds, including a significant participation of the youth. He emphasized the importance of involving young people in these age-old traditions, asserting that this connection will ensure a bright future for India. “This time, youth is participating in huge numbers in Kumbh and when youth is associated with its traditions, its bright future is ensured,” he said. Moreover, PM Modi highlighted the growing digital footprint of the Kumbh, which has enhanced its global popularity and reach.

PM Modi also took the opportunity to mention the Gangasagar Mela, which was recently held in West Bengal during Makar Sankranti. The Mela, which saw lakhs of devotees taking a holy dip, was another example of India’s deep-rooted cultural and spiritual practices that foster unity and social interaction.

The Prime Minister spoke about the significance of such festivals in promoting not only spiritual growth but also social, cultural, and economic cohesion. “Our festivals, Kumbh, Pushkaram, and Gangasagar Mela encourage our social interactions, harmony, and unity. It connects the people of India with its traditions. The way our scriptures have emphasized religion, wealth, desire, and salvation, similarly our festivals strengthen spiritual, social, cultural, and economic aspects,” he said.

In a broader context, PM Modi also addressed the celebration of the first anniversary of the Ram Lala consecration in Ayodhya, which took place on January 11. He underscored the need to preserve India’s rich heritage while continuing on the path of development. “We have to save our heritage while being on the path of development and move forward while taking inspiration from it,” the Prime Minister concluded.

Mann Ki Baat, launched on October 3, 2014, is a monthly radio programme where PM Modi interacts with the people of India, discussing important national issues. The programme, which airs on the last Sunday of every month, has now been scheduled for the third Sunday in January due to the Republic Day celebrations on the last Sunday. It is broadcast across India in 22 languages and 29 dialects, as well as in 11 foreign languages including French, Chinese, and Arabic.

Through Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi continues to engage with a wide audience, including women, the elderly, youth, and people from diverse regions and cultures, promoting national unity and pride while addressing critical issues affecting the country.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has rolled out a groundbreaking initiative to ensure seamless communication and greater accessibility for pilgrims attending the Maha Kumbh 2025, one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world. From January 13 to February 26, 2025, MeitY is integrating its innovative Bhashini language translation platform at the event, making it easier for millions of visitors to navigate the holy experience.

Bridging Language Barriers with Technology

At the heart of this initiative is Bhashini, a state-of-the-art language translation platform designed to provide multilingual support. The platform ensures that pilgrims, regardless of their native language, can access vital information and communicate effectively during their visit.

Bhashini’s features are tailored to support diverse needs, with 11 languages incorporated into the platform. This allows attendees from across India and abroad to interact with the services, creating a more inclusive environment. One of the key offerings is the ‘Digital Lost & Found Solution,’ which enables pilgrims to report lost or found items using voice inputs in their native language. The platform then provides real-time translations, both in text and voice, allowing seamless interaction between pilgrims and event organizers.

Multilingual Chatbot for Queries and Navigation

To further enhance accessibility, MeitY has introduced a multilingual chatbot, designed to assist pilgrims with general queries and help them navigate the event. Available at various kiosks, the chatbot responds in multiple languages, offering useful information and directions. This ensures that pilgrims can easily find the services they need, such as medical assistance, registration areas, and the nearest bathing ghats.

Enhancing Interaction with Local Authorities

Effective communication with local authorities is essential during such large-scale events, and Bhashini plays a key role in this area as well. The platform facilitates interaction between pilgrims and police officers, breaking down language barriers and ensuring smooth and efficient exchanges. With Bhashini’s multilingual capabilities, pilgrims can request assistance, report issues, or ask for directions in their native language, leading to quicker responses and a more streamlined experience.

In collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Police, MeitY has also integrated Bhashini’s CONVERSE feature with the state’s 112 emergency helpline. This ensures that police officers, who are trained to assist in multiple languages, can support pilgrims in urgent situations. The feature enables effective communication with officers, allowing them to understand and respond to the needs of devotees without any language constraints.

A Vision of Inclusivity and Accessibility

By leveraging advanced AI and multilingual technology, MeitY is setting a new standard for accessibility at major events like the Mahakumbh. The integration of Bhashini is part of a broader effort to ensure that the 2025 Maha Kumbh is an inclusive event, where every pilgrim can access important services, communicate freely, and feel at ease.

The initiative also highlights MeitY’s commitment to enhancing the digital infrastructure for public events, ensuring that technology works to break down language barriers and facilitate greater participation. Whether seeking guidance, reporting an emergency, or simply navigating the vast gathering, Bhashini’s integration promises to make the Mahakumbh 2025 experience more accessible, efficient, and meaningful for all.

Conclusion

MeitY’s Bhashini platform is a game-changer for the Maha Kumbh 2025, offering multilingual support and AI-driven solutions that make the spiritual gathering more inclusive and accessible for millions of attendees. By addressing language barriers, enhancing communication with local authorities, and streamlining essential services, Bhashini is helping to create a smooth and enriching experience for all pilgrims. This integration underscores the power of technology to connect people and ensure a more inclusive future for large-scale public events.

Pinar’s voyage to the Maha Kumbh began as a dream. Hailing from Turkey, she had long been captivated by tales of India’s vibrant cultural heritage. These stories painted a picture of the mystical convergence of faith, tradition, and humanity at the Maha Kumbh, a spectacle that deeply intrigued her. In January 2025, her dream materialized when she found herself standing at the banks of the Sangam—the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.

Dressed in traditional Indian attire, Pinar participated in one of the most sacred rituals in Sanatan Dharma: the holy dip in the Ganges. This act of purification carries immense spiritual significance. With a tilak on her forehead and the sacred waters surrounding her, Pinar felt an overwhelming sense of divinity. “The atmosphere here is divine and majestic,” she remarked, her voice filled with awe. For her, this experience was not merely a journey across continents, but a profound spiritual awakening.

Her reverence for the sanctity of the event was evident as she engaged in various rituals, including meditation and applying tilak. These practices deepened her connection to India’s ancient traditions. Reflecting on her experience, she said, “Walking on the sands of Sangam and taking the holy dip in the Ganga are moments I will cherish forever.” Through her participation, she gained a deeper appreciation for Sanatan Dharma’s timeless wisdom and values.

The Maha Kumbh 2025 is much more than just India’s largest spiritual gathering—it has grown into a global cultural phenomenon. Recognized as an intangible heritage of humanity, the event draws millions from around the world. This year, the international interest has been palpable, with people from every corner of the globe eager to learn about and partake in the spiritual vibrancy of the Maha Kumbh.

To accommodate this growing global interest, the Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, has embraced a digital transformation, presenting the Maha Kumbh 2025 as a “Digital Maha Kumbh.” The cornerstone of this initiative is the official website, https://kumbh.gov.in/, which provides extensive details about the event’s various aspects. From the spiritual rituals and significance to travel tips and accommodation options, the portal serves as a comprehensive resource for devotees and tourists. It highlights key events, major bathing festivals, and dos and don’ts, ensuring a rich, immersive experience for all.

The response to the digital platform has been exceptional. In the first week of January alone, the website attracted more than 33 lakh visitors from 183 countries, representing over 6,200 cities worldwide. The highest volume of traffic came from India, followed by the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany. This impressive reach underscores the Maha Kumbh’s global appeal and its ability to transcend borders, both physical and cultural.

The website’s technical team has reported a sharp rise in daily traffic since its launch, with millions of visitors accessing the site each day as the event draws nearer. Visitors are spending considerable time exploring the rich history and spiritual essence of the Maha Kumbh. This digital initiative exemplifies how modern technology can complement ancient traditions, making it easier for devotees and tourists to access reliable information and focus on their spiritual experiences without facing logistical obstacles.

As the Maha Kumbh 2025 unfolds, it continues to leave visitors in awe. For people like Pinar, it is more than just a religious event; it is a transformative journey that bridges cultures and fosters deeper spiritual connections. The grandeur of the Maha Kumbh serves as a reminder of the unifying power of faith, offering a timeless message of purity, devotion, and the collective human search for meaning. Through its global outreach and digital innovations, the event not only preserves its ancient traditions but also propels them into a more interconnected world.

As millions of people gather at the Sangam, the Maha Kumbh reaffirms its status as a spiritual epicenter. It is where ancient rituals and modern aspirations converge in a grand celebration of life and divinity, highlighting the enduring significance of faith and unity in today’s world.

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj is a seamless and unforgettable experience for visitors. The event, one of the largest religious congregations in the world, will take place from January 13 to February 26, 2025, attracting millions of devotees, tourists, and pilgrims from across the globe. This year’s Mahakumbh is particularly special as it marks the Poorna Kumbh, a significant spiritual event.

In line with its efforts to promote both domestic and international tourism, the Ministry is launching several initiatives designed to enhance the experience of those attending the event.

A key attraction will be the Incredible India Pavilion, a massive 5,000 sq ft space at the Mahakumbh site. This pavilion will serve as a hub for foreign tourists, scholars, researchers, photographers, journalists, and the Indian diaspora, offering an immersive experience that highlights India’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Visitors will also have the opportunity to take part in the Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice Poll, allowing them to vote for their favorite tourism destinations in India.

To make sure that visitors can access all necessary information, the Ministry has launched a dedicated toll-free Tourist Infoline (1800111363 or 1363). In addition to English and Hindi, the service is now available in ten international languages and several Indian languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Assamese, and Marathi. This multilingual service is designed to assist international tourists and provide guidance, ensuring a smooth and enriching experience for all.

In an effort to generate excitement and awareness about the Mahakumbh 2025, the Ministry has rolled out a vibrant social media campaign. Special hashtags such as #Mahakumbh2025 and #SpiritualPrayagraj are being promoted to encourage visitors to share their personal experiences and moments from the event, creating an engaging online presence.

For those planning to attend the event, the Ministry has partnered with key stakeholders like the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC), IRCTC, and ITDC to offer curated tour packages and luxury accommodations. ITDC is providing 80 luxury accommodations at the Tent City in Prayagraj, while IRCTC is offering luxury tents to cater to the growing demand for accommodation. A digital brochure detailing these offerings has been widely circulated through Indian Missions and India Tourism Offices to ensure that potential visitors have easy access to this information.

To ensure smooth travel, the Ministry of Tourism has also worked with Alliance Air to improve air connectivity to Prayagraj from various cities across India, making it easier for both domestic and international visitors to attend the event.

In an effort to capture the grandeur and spiritual essence of the Mahakumbh, the Ministry will undertake an extensive photoshoot and videography project. The captivating visuals will be shared across national and international media platforms, showcasing the significance of the Mahakumbh and positioning Prayagraj as a prime spiritual and cultural destination.

The Ministry’s efforts aim to not only facilitate a smooth experience for visitors but also highlight the tourism potential of Prayagraj, contributing to India’s global reputation as a cultural and spiritual hub. With these comprehensive initiatives, Mahakumbh 2025 promises to be an unforgettable journey for everyone involved.

Mahakumbhnagar (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 4: In an effort to position Uttar Pradesh as a leading global tourism destination, the Yogi Adityanath-led government is all set to highlight the state’s tourism offerings at two prestigious International Tourism Trade Fairs in Madrid, Spain, and Berlin, Germany, as per an official press release.

A key focus at these global events will be the Mahakumbh 2025, which will be presented as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The fair will emphasize the spiritual, historical, and cultural significance of this grand event, drawing attention to Uttar Pradesh’s rich legacy.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision for the state positions Mahakumbh 2025 not just as a religious event, but as a reflection of India’s deep cultural history. The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has been diligently preparing to present the state’s offerings on the global stage, ensuring Uttar Pradesh gains maximum exposure during both international fairs.

These fairs will offer a unique opportunity to invite global audiences to experience the magnificence of Mahakumbh 2025, while also showcasing other significant tourism attractions of Uttar Pradesh. The state will highlight its diverse tourism offerings through grand thematic pavilions that will be set up at both fairs.

At the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, Spain, a 40-square-meter pavilion will be constructed, set to display the vibrant tourism attractions of Uttar Pradesh from January 24 to 28. Similarly, another 40-square-meter pavilion will be set up at the ITB Berlin Fair, taking place from March 4 to 6, 2025.

To enhance global engagement, VVIP lounges will be established at both fairs to facilitate B2B and B2C interactions. The tourism department will also provide promotional materials in multiple languages, including English and key European languages, ensuring a wide-reaching impact.

The outreach strategy goes beyond just promoting Uttar Pradesh as “Brand UP” — the land of Buddha and Sanatan faith. The fairs will also serve as a platform for discussions with key stakeholders from the tourism sector and potential investors. The aim is to attract foreign investment by highlighting the state’s favorable environment for business.

Furthermore, Uttar Pradesh’s spiritual and cultural heritage will be showcased alongside the promotion of the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, highlighting local crafts and traditional products from across the state.

This international initiative marks a significant step in bringing Uttar Pradesh’s tourism potential to the global forefront, ensuring the state receives the attention it deserves as a key player in India’s tourism industry.

New Delhi, December 29, 2024: Hindu devotees from India and around the world are eagerly anticipating the start of the Mahakumbh, set to begin on January 13, 2025, in the historic city of Prayagraj. Held once every twelve years, the Mahakumbh is expected to attract over 40 crore attendees, making it one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world. The Uttar Pradesh government is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the event is not only a grand spiritual occasion but also a safe, organized, and enriching experience for all visitors.

One of the notable impacts of the Mahakumbh is its role in boosting local trade. There has been a surge in demand for Mahakumbh-themed products such as diaries, calendars, jute bags, and stationery. According to a statement from the Ministry of Culture, the sales of these items have risen by up to 25%, largely due to meticulous branding efforts. This increase in local commerce highlights how the festival is contributing to the region’s economy beyond its spiritual significance.

The 45-day festival, which will run from January 13 to February 26, 2025, is not only a gathering of devotees but also a vibrant celebration of India’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. Uttar Pradesh, the host state, has undertaken massive infrastructural projects to ensure the smooth flow of such a large-scale event. One of the key developments is the transformation of Mahakumbh Nagar into a temporary city that includes thousands of tents and shelters. Among the luxurious offerings is the IRCTC’s ‘Mahakumbh Gram’—a luxury tent city that provides deluxe tents and villas with modern amenities to accommodate visitors.

Renovation work on 92 roads and beautification efforts along 17 major roads are almost complete, as reported by government officials. The construction of 30 pontoon bridges is also underway, with 28 already operational. To help guide the large number of visitors, over 800 multi-language signages, including Hindi, English, and other regional languages, are being installed. By December 31, all signages will be in place, ensuring smooth navigation for pilgrims and tourists alike.

Special provisions have been made to cater to international visitors, with multilingual signages and cultural programs designed to showcase India’s vast cultural diversity. Through these comprehensive efforts, Mahakumbh 2025 is positioned to be more than just a religious gathering—it aims to be a global celebration that highlights spirituality, culture, safety, sustainability, and modernity.

A key focus of the preparations has been maintaining hygiene throughout the event. Over 2,69,000 checkered plates have been laid out to form pathways, while mobile toilets and a robust waste management system are in place to ensure cleanliness. In a notable technological innovation, an AI-powered chatbot, capable of communicating in multiple languages, has been introduced to assist pilgrims and visitors. This chatbot, integrated with the ‘Bhasini App,’ will answer questions related to the Kumbh in various languages, making it an essential tool for attendees.

Additionally, a call center and AI-enabled cameras are being set up to assist with visitor inquiries and security, ensuring a smooth and safe experience. The main bathing festivals, known as “Shahi Snan” (royal baths), are expected to draw the largest crowds on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami), with numbers predicted to peak during these dates.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently visited the ongoing preparations, inspecting the under-construction tent city. He emphasized the importance of timely food and supply arrangements, particularly due to the cold weather. The Chief Minister also highlighted the establishment of separate wards for men and women, along with strict adherence to shift duties for personnel. He directed that ambulance response times be minimized to ensure quick medical assistance in emergencies.

In conclusion, Mahakumbh 2025 is shaping up to be a remarkable blend of spirituality, culture, and modernity, with the added benefit of boosting local economies and promoting sustainability. As the date draws nearer, the preparations continue to be a testament to India’s commitment to making this global event a resounding success.

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), December 24: A groundbreaking dome city featuring luxury hotel accommodations is under development in the Arail area of Prayagraj to host devotees for the upcoming Mahakumbh 2025. The grand event is scheduled from January 10 to February 24, 2025, and this innovative infrastructure is set to redefine hospitality for pilgrims.

Visuals of the project reveal domes equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. According to Aishwarya Choudhary, the lead architect of this ambitious venture, this is the first time a dome city of this magnitude has been conceptualized for Mahakumbh. “The domes will offer all the amenities of a luxury hotel while retaining traditional and cultural elements,” Choudhary stated. “This marks a historic step in elevating the Mahakumbh experience.”

The booking process for these luxury domes has been streamlined, with reservations available online. Notably, 50% of the accommodations have already been booked, reflecting the enthusiasm of devotees. “Online bookings are open, and the response has been overwhelming,” Choudhary added.

Mahakumbh 2025: An Unprecedented Gathering

Uttar Pradesh Minister Nand Gopal Gupta highlighted the extensive preparations underway, emphasizing the anticipated scale of the event. “We are expecting between 40 to 45 crore people to attend the Mahakumbh. This influx includes a significant number of international visitors,” he said. To facilitate this, the Prayagraj airport is undergoing substantial upgrades, including the addition of six aerobridges.

Gupta also mentioned that customs clearance facilities are being requested to accommodate the needs of international travelers. “The city will be connected to 20-25 cities through enhanced air connectivity, with several commercial and charter flights operating during the event,” he explained. He further noted the economic benefits of Mahakumbh, stating, “This festival will provide a tremendous boost to Prayagraj’s economy.”

Coordination at Its Best

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the preparations on December 23, praising the seamless coordination between Central and State Governments and various departments. “Every institution is actively engaged to ensure the success of this grand event,” CM Yogi remarked. He emphasized that the Mahakumbh is not just a religious gathering but also a unique opportunity to showcase Prayagraj’s hospitality to the world.

Addressing journalists, the Chief Minister urged the residents of Prayagraj to actively participate in the preparations. “This is a chance to elevate our city’s global reputation,” he said.

Key Dates and Highlights

The Mahakumbh, held once every 12 years, is scheduled to commence on January 13 and conclude on February 26, 2025. The main bathing festivals, known as “Shahi Snan” or royal baths, are set for January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami). These significant dates are expected to draw millions of devotees.

As preparations progress at an unprecedented pace, the dome city initiative and infrastructural upgrades signal a transformative chapter for Mahakumbh. With luxury accommodations and enhanced connectivity, Prayagraj is poised to deliver an extraordinary experience to pilgrims and visitors alike.

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), December 16: Preparations for the much-awaited Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj are in full swing, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spearheading efforts to make the event both grand and eco-friendly. Scheduled from January 13 to February 26, the festival is expected to attract millions of devotees, and ensuring the purity of the Ganga River has become a top priority.

To address this, the UP Jal Nigam Urban has undertaken a project to install a state-of-the-art geo tube-based treatment plant in Salori. The plant, costing Rs 55 crore, is designed to treat wastewater from 22 previously untapped drains, ensuring that untreated sewage does not flow into the sacred river. The facility is currently undergoing trial runs and is set to become fully operational by January 1, 2025.

Executive Engineer Saurabh Kumar explained that the treatment plant uses advanced geo tube technology, which can reduce around 40-50% of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and 80% of Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in the wastewater. Following this initial treatment, the water is further purified using hydrogen peroxide and ozonisation. Unlike traditional chlorination, ozonisation is a safer process that effectively eliminates all faecal bacteria, making the water fit for release into the Ganga.

To maintain stringent quality standards, the plant will use OCEEMS (Online Continuous Effluent Monitoring System) to monitor the treatment process in real time. During his visit to the Salori plant on December 12, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the progress and emphasized the importance of flawless execution to ensure the success of the Mahakumbh.

Adding a technological touch to the event, the Prime Minister has introduced the Kumbh Sah’AI’yak chatbot. This innovative tool will provide pilgrims with guidance, updates, and comprehensive information about the Mahakumbh Mela 2025.

The Mahakumbh, which occurs once every 12 years, will feature key Shahi Snan (royal bathing) rituals on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami). These sacred baths are anticipated to draw massive crowds, marking the spiritual essence of the event.

With robust infrastructure, advanced technology, and a focus on environmental sustainability, Mahakumbh 2025 is set to be a remarkable celebration of faith and culture, while ensuring the safety and well-being of all attendees.
