Birds are among the most beautiful, colorful, and fascinating creatures of nature. With their stunning appearances and ability to take flight, they have always captured human imagination. With over 10,000 species of birds worldwide, they provide a visible and vibrant feast for bird enthusiasts. However, despite their incredible diversity, many bird species are either endangered or have already become extinct. Thousands of birds are captured or bred under poor conditions for profit, often at the expense of their well-being.

In India, birds have played a crucial cultural and ecological role for centuries, with their significance reflected in mythology, art, and traditions. To highlight the vital importance of birds in maintaining ecological balance, National Birds Day is celebrated annually on January 5th since 2002. The observance aims to raise awareness about the threats birds face, such as habitat loss, illegal trade, and climate change.

Birds contribute immensely to ecosystems by aiding in pollination, seed dispersion, pest control, and adding vibrancy to the skies. They are key players in maintaining the delicate balance of nature. India, home to the majestic peacock, its national bird, showcases the beauty, grace, and cultural pride associated with these flying creatures. In India, there are around 72 bird sanctuaries that provide shelter to approximately 1,210 bird species, showcasing the country’s commitment to protecting its avian life.

Despite being a non-flying species, penguins are known for their remarkable swimming abilities. Owls, with their unique ability to rotate their heads up to 270 degrees, offer a fascinating glimpse into the diverse adaptations of birds. The ostrich, the world’s largest bird, may not fly, but it can run at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Hummingbirds, on the other hand, are the only birds capable of flying backward, flapping their wings up to 80 times per second. Flamingos owe their pink color to the food they consume, such as shrimps and algae.

This National Birds Day, let’s emphasize the critical role birds play in our world and take action toward their conservation. By participating in events and raising awareness about the threats they face, we can work toward a future where these extraordinary creatures continue to thrive.

Washington [US], January 3: Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s eagerly awaited animated film, The Wild Robot, is set to stream on Peacock beginning Friday, January 24. This feature has already made waves at the global box office, grossing over USD 324 million since its theatrical debut in September 2023, according to Deadline.

The movie is also available for rent or purchase on various digital platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, and other VOD services.

Based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Peter Brown, The Wild Robot follows the journey of Roz, a robot who washes ashore on a deserted island. She must adapt to the harsh environment around her. Voiced by Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o, Roz gradually builds deep bonds with the island’s animal residents, including a clever fox, voiced by Pedro Pascal.

A central theme of the film is Roz’s evolving relationship with Brightbill, an orphaned gosling, voiced by Kit Connor, as she becomes his adoptive mother. The emotional depth of their bond lies at the heart of the story.

Directed by Chris Sanders, a veteran filmmaker known for How to Train Your Dragon and Lilo & Stitch, the movie features an impressive voice cast. In addition to Nyong’o, Pascal, and Connor, the film includes Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Catherine O’Hara, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames.

The Wild Robot is based on the first book of a trilogy by Peter Brown, with the second book titled The Wild Robot Escapes. Jeff Hermann, known for his work on The Boss Baby 2: Family Business, produces the film, while Dean DeBlois, the director behind the How to Train Your Dragon films, serves as an executive producer. Heather Lanza is credited as co-producer.

This animated feature promises to captivate audiences with its heartfelt storytelling, impressive animation, and an all-star voice cast. Don’t miss the chance to experience The Wild Robot when it debuts on Peacock later this month.
