On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, a landmark event that underscores India’s growing prominence in the automotive industry. The Prime Minister highlighted the increasing optimism surrounding India’s automotive sector, describing it as “fantastic” and “future-ready.” With an expected large turnout over the course of the event, PM Modi expressed confidence in the country’s positive outlook for the future of mobility.

An Industry Poised for Growth

During his address, PM Modi noted that in the coming days, numerous new vehicle launches and innovations would take place, reflecting the booming demand and potential of India’s auto sector. “In the next 5 to 6 days, a large number of people will visit, and many new vehicles will be launched. This shows the positivity surrounding the future of mobility in India,” he said, affirming that India’s automotive industry is poised for a bright future.

PM Modi also paid tribute to two stalwarts of India’s automotive history: Ratan Tata and Osamu Suzuki, acknowledging their immense contributions to the development of the industry. “Both of these great individuals have made a huge contribution to fulfilling the dreams of India’s middle class and to the growth of India’s auto sector. I am confident that their legacy will continue to inspire the entire mobility sector,” he remarked.

Empowering the Youth and Driving Demand

A key highlight of the Prime Minister’s speech was the focus on India’s youth and their increasing aspirations, which are shaping the country’s automotive industry. With demand steadily increasing, PM Modi pointed to the sector’s impressive growth, citing that approximately 25 million vehicles are sold annually in India. This strong demand, he noted, has placed India at the forefront of the global mobility conversation, with the world viewing the country with high hopes for the future.

“India’s automotive industry is growing at a rate of about 12 percent in recent years. This clearly shows how demand is steadily increasing in India,” PM Modi added.

Building a Sustainable, Self-Reliant Mobility Ecosystem

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted India’s ongoing efforts to build a sustainable and self-reliant mobility ecosystem. Focusing on innovation and green technologies, he spoke of the government’s commitment to reducing the country’s fossil fuel import bill while developing technologies like Electric Vehicles (EVs), Hydrogen Fuel, and Biofuels.

“We are working on a mobility system that supports both the economy and ecology. A system that can reduce our fossil fuel import bill. Therefore, India is focusing on the development of Green Technology, Electric Vehicles (EVs), Hydrogen Fuel, and Biofuels,” said PM Modi, emphasizing the country’s commitment to sustainable growth.

The Role of Make in India and PLI

PM Modi credited India’s Make in India initiative for the automotive sector’s progress, which has significantly boosted exports and created jobs. He also lauded the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which has played a pivotal role in driving sales, generating over Rs 2.25 lakh crore in sales, and creating more than 1.5 lakh direct jobs in the sector.

The Prime Minister’s speech emphasized that these initiatives have strengthened the auto industry’s global presence, making India an attractive destination for investors and manufacturers alike.

Expo Highlights and Theme

The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, which runs from January 17-22, is being held across three major venues: Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, and the India Expo Center and Mart in Greater Noida. The theme for this year’s event is “Beyond Boundaries: Co-creating Future Automotive Value Chain,” reflecting the focus on collaboration, innovation, and the development of sustainable technologies in the mobility sector.

The expo will feature over nine concurrent shows, more than 20 conferences and pavilions, and state sessions to promote policies and initiatives aimed at fostering collaboration between industry leaders, innovators, and regional stakeholders. The event is expected to be a platform for showcasing cutting-edge advancements in automotive design, green mobility solutions, and digital technologies.

With such a significant gathering of global industry players, the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 stands as a testament to India’s rising stature in the automotive world and its commitment to pioneering the future of mobility. As the country moves forward with its ambitious goals, this expo provides a glimpse into the transformation of India’s automotive sector, driven by innovation, sustainability, and collaboration.

New Delhi, January 11 – Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, launched the Bharat Cleantech Manufacturing Platform on Friday during the Bharat Climate Forum 2025 held in New Delhi. The initiative is aimed at strengthening India’s cleantech value chains, focusing on sectors like solar, wind, hydrogen, and battery storage.

In his address, Goyal emphasized that while Product Linked Incentives (PLIs) and subsidies can play a crucial role in initiating the sector, they are not sustainable in the long term for the clean energy industry. He stressed that the clean energy sector must evolve to become self-sustaining and independent of government support.

“The PLI scheme can only help kickstart the sector, but the clean energy sector must strive to become self-sustaining,” Goyal remarked, adding that the cleantech sector should aim for independence from government backing.

He called on the participants at the forum to innovate and scale up manufacturing in India. According to Goyal, the Bharat Cleantech Manufacturing Platform will offer Indian firms an opportunity to collaborate, co-innovate, and access financing. The platform will also allow for sharing ideas, technologies, and resources, positioning India as a prominent global leader in sustainability and the cleantech sector.

Additionally, Goyal expressed confidence that the ambitious clean energy target set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi – 500 Gigawatts of clean energy by 2030 – could be met. He highlighted India’s impressive progress in the energy sector, noting that the country has already exceeded expectations by achieving its renewable energy target in 2022, eight years ahead of schedule. With the installation of 200 Gigawatts of clean energy, India is now well on track to meet the 500 Gigawatt goal.

India’s success in this area, Goyal explained, is a result of its well-connected national grid, which is the largest of its kind in the world. He also credited Gujarat for being a pioneer in adopting solar power, recognizing the state’s role in the broader national effort to scale up renewable energy sources.

The affordability of solar power in India, Goyal stated, can largely be attributed to the transparency fostered by Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. Through honest auctions and fostering fair competition, the cost of solar energy has decreased significantly.

In conclusion, Goyal reiterated that the Government’s renewable energy program is centered around the principles of 3S: speed, scale, and skill, which have driven the success of the country’s clean energy initiatives.
