The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Trophy Tour has been captivating cricket fans worldwide, with its recent successful leg in England creating a buzz ahead of the highly anticipated tournament. Set to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025, in Pakistan and the UAE, the event’s ninth edition is now within reach, and the trophy’s journey has sparked increasing enthusiasm.

One of the most exciting moments during the England leg was the return of the coveted silverware to The Oval, the site of the memorable 2017 Champions Trophy final where Pakistan emerged victorious. The setting provided a nostalgic backdrop, amplifying the excitement surrounding the tournament. England wicket-keeper Jamie Smith, who is set to play in his first Champions Trophy, expressed his excitement and looked forward to competing in Pakistan. Smith shared his expectations for the tournament and talked about England’s ambitions as they gear up for the prestigious event.

Beyond the cricketing excitement, the trophy also made its way to some of London’s most iconic landmarks. From Tower Bridge and Big Ben to the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, and Borough Market, the tour celebrated cricket’s global heritage while embracing the city’s vibrant culture. These moments captured the attention of fans and reinforced the connection between cricket and England’s world-renowned landmarks.

Following successful stops in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, the England leg of the Trophy Tour was yet another milestone in the buildup to the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. Now, the excitement shifts towards India, with the trophy set to embark on its next chapter in Mumbai, Bangalore, and other major cities. Fans in India can look forward to another round of fan engagement and activities as the countdown to the tournament continues.

Adding to the excitement, earlier this week, the Indian cricket team revealed its 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy 2025, alongside the ODI series against England. Led by Rohit Sharma and featuring key players such as Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Jasprit Bumrah, Team India is gearing up to make a strong push for glory in the tournament.

The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 Trophy Tour, with its global journey, is successfully generating anticipation and uniting cricket fans from across the world, bringing the spirit of the tournament to life as it makes its way through the eight participating nations.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be announced on Saturday. The announcement will take place at a press conference in Mumbai at 12:30 PM IST, which will be attended by Indian team captain Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the men’s selection committee.

The BCCI stated that the Men’s Selection Committee will finalize the squad for both the IDFC First Bank ODI series against England and the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy. Fans and experts alike are eagerly anticipating the composition of the squad, especially with the Champions Trophy just around the corner.

India’s Upcoming Fixtures

The ODI series will follow the T20Is, with the first match scheduled for February 6. This series serves as important preparation for the Indian team ahead of their next major international assignment – the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be held from February 19 to March 9, with a unique hybrid model in which some matches will be hosted in Pakistan and others in the UAE. India is set to play all its matches in the UAE. The tournament will feature eight teams and a total of 15 matches, all played in the 50-over format.

India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign on February 20, when they face Bangladesh in their opening match. This will be followed by a much-anticipated encounter against Pakistan on February 23 in Dubai. India’s final league match is scheduled for March 2, where they will square off against New Zealand.

Tournament Structure

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be divided into two groups. Group A consists of hosts Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, while Group B includes the 2023 Cricket World Cup champions Australia, along with Afghanistan, England, and South Africa.

India’s fixtures in Group A promise to be highly competitive, with their matches against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand likely to be among the most watched of the tournament.

Conclusion

With the ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 approaching, India’s squad selection will be under intense scrutiny. As the tournament draws nearer, the Indian cricket team will be looking to build on their recent successes and prepare for a challenging yet exciting few weeks of international cricket. Fans across the world will be watching closely as the squad announcement unfolds this Saturday.

Sydney, January 2: With the final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy approaching, India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, expressed his “extreme confidence” in his team’s ability to secure a win against Australia in the upcoming Sydney Test.

India enters the final match of the series on the back of an 184-run loss to Australia in the Melbourne Test, which gave the hosts a 2-1 lead. This defeat also dashed India’s hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord’s early next year. Despite the setback, Gambhir remains unwavering in his belief that the Indian side has what it takes to prevail in Sydney.

During a pre-match press conference, Gambhir emphasized that the team has the right skill set and individual talent to clinch victory in the fifth and final match of the series. He highlighted the potential for even greater achievements in the future with the current squad.

“Extremely, extremely confident. You know, we’ve got the skill set, we’ve got the individuals, we’ve got everything in the dressing room that can win a test match here. Not only here, but probably go on to do some unbelievable things in the future as well. So, extremely confident,” Gambhir said.

However, India will need to adjust to a forced change in their lineup. Gambhir confirmed that pacer Akash Deep would be absent from the Sydney Test due to a back injury. The 28-year-old will not feature in the playing eleven, leaving the team to manage without him in the final match of the series.

“As of now, Akash Deep is out (for the fifth test) due to a back injury,” Gambhir stated.

India’s squad for the final match includes: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Sarfaraz Khan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Prasidh Krishna, Shubman Gill, Devdutt Padikkal, Tanush Kotian, Dhruv Jurel, and Harshit Rana.

The final Test will be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground, starting January 3, with both teams gearing up for a thrilling conclusion to the series.

New Delhi [India], December 27: After over a decade of longing, India finally broke its ICC trophy drought in 2024, triumphing in the T20 World Cup under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. The victory marked a historic moment, coming 17 years after India’s first T20 World Cup win in 2007 and 13 years after their last ICC title in 2013.

India’s campaign began with a dominant performance against Ireland in New York, where the bowlers dismantled their opponents for just 96 runs. Hardik Pandya’s three-wicket haul and a solid 52 from Rohit Sharma ensured an easy eight-wicket win. Jasprit Bumrah, with a miserly spell of two wickets for six runs, earned the Player of the Match award.

The second group-stage match saw India take on arch-rivals Pakistan. In a thrilling encounter, Pakistan was restricted to 113 in their chase of 119, thanks to an exceptional performance by the Indian bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah once again stood out and was named Player of the Match.

India continued their dominance by defeating hosts USA in Nassau County. Arshdeep Singh’s four wickets for nine runs restricted the USA to 110 for 8, a target that India chased comfortably in 18.2 overs. Rain played spoilsport in India’s match against Canada in Florida, but with seven points, India topped Group A and advanced to the Super 8 stage.

Moving to the Caribbean for the Super 8 stage, India registered a commanding victory over Afghanistan in Barbados. Suryakumar Yadav’s blistering 53 off 28 balls and a combined six-wicket haul by Bumrah and Arshdeep ensured a 47-run win. Against Bangladesh in Antigua, Hardik Pandya’s all-round display, including a quickfire fifty and a crucial wicket, helped India secure a 50-run victory and a semi-final berth.

In a high-stakes match against Australia, Rohit Sharma delivered a sensational captain’s knock, scoring 92 off 41 balls. India posted 205 for 5 and restricted Australia to 181 for 7, knocking the defending champions out of the tournament.

India’s semi-final clash against England in Guyana was a showcase of teamwork and precision. Rohit Sharma led with a 57-run knock, while Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets each to bowl England out for 103. India stormed into the final with a resounding 68-run victory.

The final at Kensington Oval, Barbados, was a battle of nerves against South Africa. Virat Kohli’s steady 76 off 59 balls anchored India to a competitive total of 176 for 7. South Africa fought valiantly but fell short, managing 169 for 8, handing India a thrilling seven-run win. Kohli was named Player of the Match, and Jasprit Bumrah’s consistent brilliance earned him the Player of the Series title.

Arshdeep Singh emerged as the tournament’s joint-highest wicket-taker alongside Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi, both claiming 17 wickets. Rohit Sharma, with 257 runs, finished as India’s top scorer, second only to Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

This historic win made India the third team after West Indies and England to clinch the T20 World Cup twice. For Rohit Sharma, the triumph was especially momentous as he became only the second Indian captain, after MS Dhoni, to lift the T20 World Cup.

India’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory is a celebration of resilience, teamwork, and exceptional leadership, ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought and etching a golden chapter in Indian cricket history.
