The 2025-26 Union Budget, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has sparked optimism in India’s tourism sector with strategic measures to boost growth, employment, and global visibility. The key provisions focus on enhancing infrastructure, fostering local entrepreneurship, and positioning India as a prominent player in global tourism.

A standout initiative is the development of 50 key tourist destinations across the country, in collaboration with state governments. These destinations will receive necessary infrastructure upgrades, including hotels, as part of a comprehensive infrastructure development plan. States will play a pivotal role in providing land for these projects, with the goal of long-term sustainability through public-private partnerships.

The budget also introduces skill development programs, particularly in the hospitality sector, aimed at empowering youth through specialized training at institutes of hospitality management. Performance-based incentives will reward states that excel in tourism management, focusing on cleanliness, facilities, and promotional efforts.

To further improve accessibility, Sitharaman announced the simplification of e-visa processes, including visa fee waivers for specific tourist groups. Additionally, there will be a heightened focus on spiritual tourism, with special emphasis on destinations connected to the life of Lord Buddha.

Tourism industry leaders have lauded these measures, recognizing them as transformative for India’s tourism sector. Vishal Suri from SOTC Travel praised the infrastructure developments and the potential for boosting international travel. Karan Agarwal from Cox & Kings expressed excitement over the focus on spiritual and medical tourism, while Rama Mahendru from Intrepid Travel highlighted the importance of regional accessibility through the UDAN scheme.

The Mudra Loan initiative, which supports local businesses and homestays, has also garnered praise, with Kush Kapoor from Roseate Hotels emphasizing its potential to create grassroots-level entrepreneurship. Pranav Dangi from The Hosteller and Dharamveer Singh Chouhan from Zostel both emphasized the regional focus, aiming to highlight India’s hidden gems and promote sustainable tourism.

The government’s focus on medical and wellness tourism was noted by Ashish Sidhra from Alike.io, who sees the “Heal in India” initiative as a step toward establishing India as a leading wellness destination. Rikant Pittie from EaseMyTrip and Ashwani Gandhi from Niraamaya Life also welcomed the focus on medical and wellness tourism, recognizing the significant role it will play in the country’s tourism growth.

With these initiatives, the 2025-26 Union Budget sets the stage for India’s tourism industry to thrive, offering new opportunities for local entrepreneurs, job creation, and global recognition. The push for infrastructure, connectivity, and sustainability promises a bright future for India’s tourism sector.

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), December 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and launched a series of development projects in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, as part of the preparations for the upcoming Mahakumbh 2025.

PM Modi began his visit by performing pooja and darshan at Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. He then proceeded to offer prayers at Akshay Vata Vriksh, followed by darshan and pooja at Hanuman Mandir and Saraswati Koop.

In a significant move for the Mahakumbh 2025, the Prime Minister inaugurated several projects aimed at improving infrastructure and providing seamless connectivity in Prayagraj. These include the construction of 10 new Road Over Bridges (RoBs) or flyovers, permanent ghats, and riverfront roads.

In line with his commitment to a clean and pollution-free Ganga, PM Modi also inaugurated projects related to the interception, tapping, diversion, and treatment of minor drains leading into the river. These efforts are intended to ensure zero discharge of untreated water into the Ganga, a vital step in the initiative for a “Swachh and Nirmal Ganga.”

Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated multiple infrastructure projects focused on improving drinking water and power supply systems in the region.

Another key highlight of PM Modi’s visit was the launch of major temple corridors. These include the Bharadwaj Ashram Corridor, Shringverpur Dham Corridor, Akshayvat Corridor, and Hanuman Mandir Corridor, among others. These projects aim to enhance accessibility for devotees and boost spiritual tourism in the region.

In a step towards enhancing the experience for devotees during Mahakumbh 2025, the Prime Minister also launched the Kumbh Sah’AI’yak chatbot. This chatbot will provide information, guidance, and updates on the various events of the Mahakumbh Mela to the millions of devotees expected to attend.

The Maha Kumbh, which is held once every 12 years, is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 26, 2025, in Prayagraj. The main bathing festivals, known as the “Shahi Snan” (royal baths), will occur on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).

As part of the extensive preparations for the Mahakumbh 2025, the Uttar Pradesh Police will integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies into their CCTV systems to enhance security and safety for the millions of devotees attending the event. This move was highlighted by Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar, ensuring a secure and smooth experience for all participants.
