UAE President Honors Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim with Zayed Second Medal for Contributions to COP28

Abu Dhabi, UAE – On December 28, UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan awarded the prestigious Zayed Second Medal to Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, the President of the Indigenous Women and Peoples Association of Chad. This recognition was bestowed upon her in acknowledgment of her significant contributions to the success of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which was held in the UAE last year.

The medal was presented by Rashid Saeed Al Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Chad, who conveyed the UAE’s appreciation for Ibrahim’s efforts. Oumarou Ibrahim expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the honor and praised the landmark UAE Consensus reached during COP28. This consensus has since become a vital reference for global climate action and sustainability.

Ambassador Al Shamsi also took the opportunity to congratulate Ibrahim on receiving the award. He highlighted Chad’s active participation in COP28 and its strong endorsement of the UAE Consensus, which has played a key role in fostering international cooperation to protect both humanity and the environment.

This award underscores the UAE’s commitment to recognizing individuals who drive positive change in the global fight against climate change and who advocate for the sustainable future of our planet.
