Dehradun (Uttarakhand), December 14 : Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday expressed pride over the state’s recognition as the best in fisheries development, attributing the achievement to the efforts of the people and the state government’s visionary policies.

In a post on X, CM Dhami said, “It is a matter of pride for all of us that Uttarakhand has been awarded the Best State in the field of Fisheries in the category of Himalayan and North-Eastern states. This achievement is the result of the visionary policies of the state government, efforts for sustainable development, and the hard work of the people associated with this sector.”

The prestigious award, presented by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) in Hyderabad, acknowledges Uttarakhand’s remarkable contributions and innovative initiatives in the field of fisheries development.

Uttarakhand’s Secretary of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, BVRC Purushottam, received the award on behalf of the state from Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy, Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh, during a ceremony held in New Delhi.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) highlighted several key achievements that contributed to the award. One of the significant milestones was the ‘Trout Farming Expansion’ initiative, which led to the establishment of over 1,400 trout raceways across the state, greatly enhancing trout farming and production. The state has also built a state-level aquapark and a wholesale fish market in Udham Singh Nagar, which have provided substantial opportunities for fish farmers through the Matsya Sampada Yojana.

Additionally, to strengthen market linkages, Uttarakhand signed a landmark agreement with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to ensure reliable fish supply, offering farmers enhanced market access and increasing their income.

These efforts are part of Uttarakhand’s broader strategy to empower fish farmers, promote sustainable aquaculture, and create diverse livelihood opportunities in the Himalayan region, the CMO statement noted.
