India Shines at International Snow Sculpture Championship, Wins Bronze in Colorado
India has proudly secured a bronze medal at the prestigious International Snow Sculpture Championship held in Colorado, USA, marking a significant achievement on the global stage. The event, known for its fierce competition and high artistic standards, saw participants from around the world competing to create intricate snow sculptures.
Representing India at the championship were Zahoor Ahmad, the team captain, and Suhail Mohammad Khan, a talented snow artist who is both deaf and mute. Their remarkable skills and dedication earned Team India a well-deserved third place in this intense competition.
Zahoor Ahmad, reflecting on their performance, expressed immense pride in the team’s accomplishment. He shared his thoughts on the challenge of competing in Colorado, noting the exceptional talent of participants from various countries. “This year, we participated in two major championships, one in Minnesota and the other in Colorado. The Colorado event was particularly challenging due to the high level of artistry exhibited by global participants. The competition was fierce, but we gave our best and showed immense dedication. It is an honor to win the third prize,” Zahoor said.
Drawing a connection between the snowy landscapes of Colorado and his home country, Zahoor mentioned how the environment reminded him of Gulmarg, a popular winter destination in India. He advocated for similar events to be held in India, particularly in snow-covered regions like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam. Zahoor emphasized the potential benefits of such events, suggesting they would boost tourism and provide recognition to local talents. He also called on the government to support such initiatives and organize national competitions to encourage aspiring artists.
Suhail Mohammad Khan, the Indian snow artist who made significant contributions to Team India’s success, shared his joy despite his inability to speak. Although Suhail communicates through a team member, his passion for snow sculpture and pride in his achievement were evident. “I am Suhail Mohammad Khan, and though I cannot speak, I am deeply proud of our achievement. For the past two years, I have represented India in the International Snow Sculpture Championship in Colorado. I am a sculpture student at Kashmir University, and winning this award has filled me with joy,” Suhail expressed through his teammate.
